Ms Nancy Loo is one of Hong Kong’s most versatile artists, as pianist, radio programme host, actress and writer.Ms Loo not only shares her talent, but also her love to music through teaching and voluntary works.
Ms Loo attended the JuilliardSchool on scholarship, where she studied with Adele Marcus. After graduating with a Master’s degree, she studied with Vlado Perlemuter in Paris and Guido Agosti in Italy.She was the first prizewinner at the Fourth Rina Sala Gallo International Competiion in Monza in 1976 and has won many other international competitions.Ms Loo has given solo recitals and performed with orchestras in England, Europe, North America and Asia.Ms Loo has played the piano part for the soundtrack of several films and television series and published two books and a number of recordings. She was a recipient of the ‘Ten Outstanding Young Persons Award’ in 1978, and currently teaches piano at The HK Academy for Performing Arts and The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Ms Nancy Loo has been our Honourary Advisor since our 1st Music Competition.She has been drawing the support of respectful musicians for adjudication and helped establish the ‘Scholarship Class’ to encourage students to pursuit their interest in music.
Hailed by the press as a pianist with ‘imagination and romantic poetry’, ‘exquisite tone, interpretative insight and deep communicative power’, Raymond Young was the First-prize Medallist in the two-piano section and the Silver Medallist in the Duet section at the International Piano Competition in Rome, Italy; and was honoured with a "Promising Young Artist Award" at the Braunschweig Classix Festival in Germany. A Bӧsendorfer artist, his numerous captivating concerts in Austria, Canada, China, England, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Korea, Macao, Malaysia, Russia and Taiwan over the years have won him great critical acclaim.
As the first pianist from Hong Kong to be awarded the highest scholarship by the Austrian Government, Young graduated with double Master of Arts degrees in performance and accompaniment, and a Diploma in piano pedagogy from the prestigious University for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, his second home where he lived for over a decade. Besides piano studies, he also majored in music theory and opera coaching. On account of his achievements and numerous recommendations, he was also granted Austrian citizenship. He has benefited from such masters as Paul Badura-Skoda, an authority of the Classical Viennese style; Joseph Banowetz, a grand student of Clara Schumann; Walter Fleischmann; David Lutz and Norman Shetler. He is a Fellow of the Trinity College, and an Associate of the Royal College of Music, in London.
As one of Hong Kong’s most versatile and renowned pianists, Young performs concerts extensively as a soloist and chamber music player, collaborates with singers and instrumentalists, records for radio broadcasts, conducts master classes and lectures in Hong Kong and around the world. Being a sought-after adjudicator, he has been a judge at many major competitions in the region and has served as an examiner for the Yamaha Music Foundation. Young is also the founding member of the piano quartet ‘Piano Extravaganza’, consisting of four pianists. He is committee member of Hong Kong Music Tutors Union and Hong Kong Piano Music Association. Apart from his busy schedule as a performer, he is also highly in demand as a piano pedagogue, and has been on the piano faculty of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Hong Kong Baptist University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Institute of Education and The University of Hong Kong. Recent highlights include solo recital in The Bӧsendorfer Hall in the legendary Mozart’s Figaro House in Vienna and master class in Pushkin City (St. Petersburg) in Russia.
